1% for Women is Bluebird Refuge’s community-wide initiative to accompany women in motherhood and answer the crisis of abortion.

We do this by building symbolic nest boxes—intentional care and meaningful connection—where each of us gives a little to make a dynamic impact right where we live and work.

2. How does my membership in 1% for Women help my community?
Your membership directly strengthens the support network for women in motherhood. By contributing to certified 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners, you help ensure that direct low- and no-cost pregnancy and parenting services are available and known to women and their families.

Visible support for women in motherhood is crucial for building a life-giving culture. When a woman is considering her pregnancy options, she needs to see and hear voices that offer reassurance and encouragement as she makes life-giving decisions for herself and her baby. 1% for Women unites communities and people to accompany women where they live and work, providing real support as they take their next steps.

3. Do I get to choose where my 1% goes?
Yes! Your pledge as a member of 1% for Women is fulfilled with your direct donation to one or more certified 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners of your choice. Participating nonprofits provide at least one direct low- or no-cost service to women who are pregnant or parenting.

No part of your one percent goes through Bluebird Refuge; it is a direct gift from you to them.

4. How do I give my 1% donation?
• Select one or more of our certified 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners.
• Give donations of money, materials, services, or volunteer time directly to the organization(s) of your choice. No part of your one percent goes through Bluebird Refuge; it is a direct gift from you to them.

5. Why join 1% for Women if I already donate to nonprofits?
• Increase awareness of the Story of the Bluebird and its two important messages: strength in unity and perseverance in motherhood.
• Expand the reach of pregnancy and parenting services by magnifying their visibility to the women and families who need them.
• Advance the movement of accompaniment—from conversation over tea to simple acts of service in daily life.
• Demonstrate commitment to supporting women in a life-giving way.
• Awaken hope and joy for women who feel alone, unsupported, hurting, and uncertain.

Every membership symbolizes a collective advancement of a culture working to uphold the dignity of every human being in the communities where we live and work.

6. What if the nonprofit I want to support is not listed?
Growing our 1% for Women list of Nonprofit Partners is an ongoing process, and we appreciate your efforts to identify life-giving organizations that provide at least one direct low- or no-cost service to women in one of these areas:
• Women’s Health: Full or limited medical care, including pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, prenatal education, STI testing/treatment, pregnancy options, postpartum, and more
• Material Assistance: Maternal and child clothing, diapers, food pantry assistance, domestic needs, or transportation
• Mental Health & Wellness: Emotional, trauma, spiritual support, addiction, or mental health services
• Legal & Financial Counseling: Guidance on legal and financial matters related to family, employment or housing
• Social/Life Services: Life skills, health, and parenting education; childcare; case management; career counseling; and referrals for additional pregnancy and parenting support services
• Housing & Shelter: Long-term or short-term emergency or permanent housing, including domestic violence shelters, maternity housing, and after-care maternal housing

7. Is my donation tax deductible?
Donations to 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners are tax-deductible when given directly to them. However, 1% for Women membership dues are not tax-deductible, as Bluebird Refuge is a Benefit Corporation, not a 501(c)(3). Please consult a tax professional for guidance on specific tax matters.

8. Is 1% for Women a political action organization?
No, we focus on supporting women in motherhood, irrespective of politics. We are interested in creating subcultures of love and accompaniment within our local communities that exclaims support for women who are pregnant and parenting.

9. Can I give more than 1%?
Yes, additional contributions are welcome.

10. What are 1% for Women membership options?
Hope & Joy Membership
Hope & Joy Members are businesses committed to doing good for women in motherhood. Members make an annual pledge to give one percent from total company revenue—or from a specific brand, product line, or service—to one or more certified 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners. These donations support nonprofits that provide at least one direct low- or no-cost pregnancy and parenting service to women. Members receive a Nest Box featuring thoughtfully curated products from the Bluebird Refuge tea and gift shop, resources to help advance the movement, and the rights to use 1% for Women logos.

I. Minimum annual revenue of $25,000 is required for product line or service commitment.
II. Revenue is defined as gross receipts or sales after adjustments for discounts, allowances, and returns. Revenue and donation amounts are used solely for certification. Your information is kept strictly confidential and will never be made public.

Bluebird Membership
Members include individuals, families, and foundations pledging to annually support our certified nonprofit partners who offer pregnancy and parenting services. Donations may be monetary gifts, materials, volunteer assistance, or a combination of these. Members receive a Nest Bundle featuring thoughtfully curated products from the Bluebird Refuge tea and gift shop, along with resources to help advance the movement.

11. How much does a 1% for Women membership cost?
Dues are paid to Bluebird Refuge, whereas your tax-deductible commitment is donated directly to one or more 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners.

Hope & Joy Membership dues may be paid monthly or as a one-time annual payment with a 10% discount.

$10 monthly with a $35 sign-up fee, or $140/year
If you choose monthly support, you can discontinue your membership at any time. Please contact us 15 days prior to your next monthly transaction.

12. How are 1% for Women membership contributions utilized?
Contributions cover costs associated with:
• Certifying businesses and nonprofit organizations
• Advancing the movement through our marketing efforts, allowing us to be a life-giving voice of support when women are considering their pregnancy options
• Providing curated products from the Bluebird Refuge tea and gift shop, as well as other materials to advance the movement with employees, customers, family, and friends.
• Enhancing the visibility of participating businesses on the 1% for Women membership listing on our website (or opt to remain anonymous). Members may also be highlighted in future 1% for Women and Bluebird Refuge publications.

13. How does my school or community organization support the 1% for Women movement?
Your school or community organization can endorse the 1% for Women movement as an Advocate. This no-cost advocacy option allows tax-exempt entities the opportunity to exclaim their support for women through 1% for Women, grow the movement, amplify current life-giving work, and fundraise for one or more of our participating nonprofits. Complete the pledge form to be listed as a 1% for Women Advocate.
