The Story of the Bluebird

The bluebird is a fascinating little creature with much to teach us about life. For hundreds of years, many cultures have seen the bluebird as a symbol of hope and joy; a sign that good news was soon to come. Today, one might claim that the bluebird represents perseverance and strength, surviving even when it seemed the odds were stacked against it.

You see, in the 1960s, the bluebird population was at its lowest, having been in decline for the previous hundred years. Nearly 90 percent of its population was missing due to various reasons such as the cutting down of woodland areas, loss of food supply, and competition for nesting sites as non-native starlings and sparrows were growing in number. It seemed the beautiful bluebird had little chance of surviving, let alone thriving.

But then, an amazing thing happened! A movement was formed and people learned what the bluebird needed to survive.

Far and wide, people put out nest boxes. This gave the bluebird a place of refuge to lay eggs, care for its young, and keep warm during the long, harsh winters. Because of this effort, the bluebird population rebounded!

And now, with continued help from people, the bluebird is thriving. It spreads joy with its sweet tunes, waking early to usher in each new day. Even through the harshest of winters, you can hear the bluebird sing its cheerful song.

The bluebird lets us know that spring will come, even if the winter seems endless. Even if the winter seems impossibly bleak. Even if winter is hanging over us and hiding the sunshine, the bluebird sings its tune and reminds us spring will come.

Hope and Help for Women

The bluebird’s future once seemed bleak, yet she remained resilient with the help of caring people. Even today, despite harsh winters, her instincts guide her to keep singing her joyful morning song, trusting that spring will come.

9 Days of Refuge

We wrote a book to offer encouraging words to women facing difficult ‘winter’ seasons due to the uncertainties of an unexpected pregnancy. We remind women that, just as seasons come and go, so too do feelings and difficult times; brighter days are sure to come.

Join us in providing hope and help to women.
