1. How does the business membership work?
Members are businesses pledging to annually give one percent from total company revenue—or revenue from a specific brand, product line, or service—to one or more certified 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners.

Membership Enrollment & Support
1 | Pledge: Join 1% for Women by completing our membership form and paying for your membership.
2 | Give: Donate directly to one or more certified 1% for Women Nonprofit Partners by the end of your pledge year. Your donation may be monetary, material, volunteer, or a combination of these.
3 | Certify: At your designated reporting time, submit proof of your donation(s) and top-line sales revenue to gain certified member status. See frequently asked questions on page 7 to learn more.
4| Magnify Impact: Complete a brief annual survey to report your company’s impact on the community to gain/retain certified member status.

Membership Details
I. Businesses give directly to 1% for Women nonprofit partners and have the flexibility to choose how they participate, whether by contributing from their total company revenue, a specific brand, product line, or service.
II. A minimum annual revenue of $25,000 is required for a product line or service commitment.
III. Revenue is defined as gross receipts or sales after adjustments for discounts, allowances, and returns
IV. Revenue and donation amounts are used solely for certification. Your information is kept strictly confidential and will never be made public.

Becoming Certified After Your Pledge Year

Example: Pledge Year 1
If your Fiscal Year 2025 runs from August 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025, and you become a Hope & Joy Member on June 1, 2025, you will submit:
✓ FY25 revenue (total revenue from August 1, 2024 – July 31, 2025)
✓ Donations given to one or more certified nonprofit partners between June 1 – October 15, 2025.

Submission deadline: October 15, 2025 (or a date we select together).

How We Calculate Your 1% Contribution
To transition from a pledged member to a certified member, your 1% donation is calculated as follows:

Donations ÷ ( FY25 Revenue ÷ 12 ) × Months Active

Example Calculation: $850 ( $500,000 ÷ 12) × 2
$850 ÷$83,333
=1.02%

With this calculation, your status changes from pledged member to certified member.

Example: Membership Year 2 (Certified Status & Renewal)
June 1, 2026: Your renewal payment is due to maintain your member status.
October 15, 2026: You will submit your FY26 revenue and donation records for re-certification. For full-year members, the calculation is simpler:

Donations ÷ FY25 Revenue

Example Calculation: $5,000 ÷ $500,000 = 1%
With this calculation, your status remains as certified.

If your business does not have a profitable year and cannot meet the 1% certification requirements, you may remain a member by paying your dues; however, your status will be marked as pledged, not certified.

2. How does 1% for Women help my business?
1% for Women uplifts women in your community and workplace. It serves as a catalyst for any business to easily gain a competitive advantage in both sales and employment attraction and retention by becoming a profit-with-a-purpose organization. You may also be eligible for tax benefits when you donate to our nonprofit partners. Please consult a tax professional on all tax matters.

3. How many Nest Boxes does my company receive?
Members receive one Nest Box with the option to purchase more.

4. How can my business use 1% for Women logos?
Hope & Joy members may use approved 1% for Women logos across all communication channels. These will be provided to you.

5. How will my business appear on your website?
Once you become a member and make a pledge, your business will be listed. After completing your pledge year and certification, a bluebird icon will appear next to your business’s name on our listing, signifying your certified member status.

6. How does my business become certified?
At the end of your pledge year, your business must submit its revenue for your chosen designation (company, brand, product line, or service) along with the receipts of your donations and the completion of your brief impact report. Bluebird Refuge will then verify that the 1% contribution was donated.

7. Why can’t my 1% donation go to organizations that provide or refer for abortions*, or prescribe medication intended to end a human life?
The purpose of 1% for Women is to support and accompany women on their journey through pregnancy and parenting, especially in times of need. Our goal is to build symbolic nest boxes for women, not smash them.

*This refers to elective abortions only, not treatment for ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages.
