Awakening hope & joy for women
in motherhood
We believe women shouldn’t have to navigate motherhood alone—especially in moments of uncertainty during pregnancy.
Our approach to accompanying women begins with hospitality—setting a table, pouring tea, and taking time to share in conversation.
This vision is expressed through the Story of the Bluebird, a touch of nostalgia for the slower pace of the 1960s, and the beauty of people uniting to do good.

Mission
Awakening hope and joy by uniting communities and people to accompany women in motherhood.
We carry out this mission through our giving program, Buy Tea, Give Hope, community-wide initiative 1% for Women, and book “9 Days of Refuge.”

MARY CROSBY
“The Story of the Bluebird is such a gift to this mission because it is a story so many of us can relate to.
We all go through difficult seasons and hard times. Often, when we look back on what we have persevered through, we cannot recall every little way others helped us, but we do remember how they made us feel loved and cared for.
That is where teatime lives—in the intimate moments of time shared together, where hope awakens and Christ’s love is magnified.”

Mary Crosby is co-founder and owner of Bluebird Refuge and co-author of “9 Days of Refuge.”
For 20 years, her work has centered on nonprofit leadership, marketing, and design, including 16 years of actively supporting women facing unexpected pregnancies and parenting challenges.
That work has included serving as executive director of a maternity for women who are pregnant and experiencing homelessness, conceiving and launching an upscale secondhand boutique to support mission work, and leading marketing and communications for a pregnancy help organization.
Mary and her husband, Dr. Justin Crosby, live in South Carolina with their four children. The vision of Bluebird Refuge is shaped by both professional experience and her primary vocation—motherhood.
Our Beginnings
Our
Beginnings
Bluebird Refuge was founded by the Lenz sisters who shared a desire to awaken hope and joy through something simple and meaningful—a cup of tea.
As Bluebird Refuge has grown and entered a new season, Renee has stepped out of active ownership and now serves as Founding Advisor. Her voice, encouragement, and vision remain woven into the heart of this work.
Our beginnings matter, and so does the sisterhood that shaped them.

Founding Advisor
RENEE EAMES, MBA
“When we were young, I loved imagining alongside Mary. Dreaming and prayerfully discerning Bluebird Refuge together was no exception.”
With 15 years of experience in Human Resources at a Fortune 500 company, Renee recognized the early potential of Bluebird Refuge and 1% for Women, along with the possibilities of a mission-driven business model. Her perspective, paired with Mary’s direct service experience supporting women, helped shape the foundation of the work from the beginning.
Her insight and strategic perspective continue to strengthen Bluebird Refuge.
Renee is married to Aaron Eames and together, with their two children, reside in Nebraska.
